#89 Racing for Jesus

Morgan Shepherd...A Testimony

February 23rd, 1975 I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. This was one of the cases when the Lord let me get to the lowest point in my life and I had to change one way or the other. When I came back from the race in Daytona that year, my wife at that time had left me. So then I thought I would live it up. After a weekend of partying, I felt badly in the morning after drinking the night before. I got to thinking that if all this is so great, how come I feel so badly in the mornings? The only time I felt good was when I was drinking. So I had really gotten down and was feeling bad. I had always went to church and knew about the Lord, but I reckon I had never really turned my life over to the Lord. So he let me get good and miserable at that point. On a Tuesday night, February the 23rd, in my little house over in Crestmont, I fell down on my knees and I started praying. By the time I was done praying I had accepted Jesus as my Savior because I wanted a change in my life. After that I felt like I could jump straight through the ceiling. The next day I went to Springs Road Baptist Church to see the preacher, Ray Barrett. We’ve been friends for a long time now. I told him about my experience and that I was going to start coming to church. So I went to church that night on a Wednesday and ended up joining the church.

My testimony is that if you just turn things over to Jesus, things will change. He made me hate everything that alcohol stands for. Alcohol was a problem in my life. I didn’t drink that much, maybe once or twice a month. But whenever I drank it always seemed like I ended up in trouble. So God had taken that out of my life February 23rd, 1975. Life is always going to be a challenge, a struggle, whether you’re a born-again Christian or not. When you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior you have faith in Him that you can handle these things. The problems that you have in life, you turn them over to the Lord and He’ll carry you through.

Stumbling block or Obstacle

What's in your life??
we all have them and we all believe we can jump, go around, or handle them, but can we really? I think not...

Romans 14:13 "Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way."

So I am going to stop "passing judgment" on you all...
I in no way want to be a obstacle in your life in finding your God, your Higher Power, your Life, I can only be here for you when you need a light to see your way...

Proverbs or Life

So i open the Bible, Proverbs 19 and start reading.

"We often move hastily through life, rushing headlong into the unknown. Many people marry without knowing what to expect of their partner or of married life. Others try illicit sex or drugs, i know i did, withour considering the consequences. Some plunge into jobs without evaluating whether they are suitable to that line of work. Don't rush into the unknown. STOP! Be sure you fully understand what you're getting into and where you want to go before you take that first step. And if it still seems unknown, be sure you are following God. I know you are saying, right! but believe me this old man has walk down many paths only to find that they only lead to bad times and hurt feelings before I let God in. Carry this with you for a month,

"It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way." Proverbs 19:2

Too Much Wine?

Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints?
Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?

Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.
Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup,
When it goes down smoothly!

In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.
Your eyes will see strange sights and your mind imagine
confusing things.

You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of
the rigging. "They hit me," you will say, "but i'm not hurt!
They beat me, but I don't feel it! When will I wake up so I can
Find another drink?" Proverbs 23:29-35
